Today we started our unit (and theme for the year) on Community. We brainstormed what community is and came up with many ideas of people, places, and things to do in our community. Ironically, the first job (or type of people in our community) that was mentioned was a Fire Fighter.
We are so lucky because one of our amazing parents is a Fire Fighter and she came into our class in uniform AND brought her gear for both her and Ms. Brown to try on. It was sure heavy! Now we understand why it is so important for Fire Fighters to stay healthy and fit! We also learned a lot about the oxygen tank and as scary as the mask may look, it's not really scary at all! Fire Fighters get to sound like Darth Vader from Star Wars! So cool! But most importantly, Fire Fighters play a big role in our community! They help save lives and are always there for us if there is any kind of emergency (yes, saving cats from tall trees too...)
So, are Fire Fighters a necessity in our community? Absolutely!
Thanks again to our wonderful parent volunteer for sharing her role in our community! Lucky for us, we get to also experience the Fire Hall hands on this week! Please stay tuned for that field trip too! :)
