Fishing at Green Timbers!

Thank-you Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC for teaching us all about fishing! We had a great morning learning a lot!

Our first lesson: How to Cast.

All smiles this morning!

Getting ready to get our own fishing rods to cast:

Here we go!

Oops, that one went in the tree...

This isn't his first time fishing... (He is quietly and patiently waiting for his catch.)

Although the fishermen around us were catching Trout, this is about as close to fish as we got...

Such a beautiful day for being on the water!

Thanks again to our amazing (grand)parent volunteers! They not only drove us but they were superstars when our hooks got stuck in trees, tangled amongst one another, and when the hooks came way too close to each other, they calming jumped to the rescue to ensure we had no injuries! :)

Thanks again Freshwater Fisheries Society!

Exploring our Environment!

This month our Big Ideas are focused on our Environment. We will be busy with exploring the outdoors hands-on, learning about different features and behaviours that help living things survive in the environment.

Here are some pictures of us looking for living and non-living things in our own school backyard.

Can you tell if these are living or non-living?

Happy Learning!

Poetry!

Last week we explored some different pieces of poetry: Alliteration, Personification, Onomatopoia, Similies, and Metaphors.

As we had a few new, little friends crawling around our classroom, our first attempt at a poem was about an ant and his sandwich.

Now our classroom is full of ants!

Spring is here!

This month our theme has focused on Spring. We have been discussing the changes in our weather and environment, where we are also exploring the different living and non-living things in our own school backyard.

Inspired by a few insects in our environment, we drew and painted (or used oil pastel) butterflies, flowers, ladybugs, and bumble bees.

With the beautiful, sunny weather, we plan to take full advantage of Mother Nature-- taking our learning outside.
